My take on relocating from the UK to the USA -- Pros and Cons, Dos and Don'ts, Loves and Hates. Why "The Americanization of Emily"? -- It's the title of a 1964 film starring Julie Andrews (IMDb) and Emily is the name of my eldest daughter. (Email: violagoodacre-at-gmail-dot-com)

It appeals to my rather infantile sense of humour.

I don't get it. Is this a way of referring to a feminine product in the UK?
Yes. Sorry if this bit of humour is culturally biased towards the UK, but I couldn't resist putting it up.
There's a big advertising campaign in the UK at the moment which goes something along the lines of 'sanitary protection isn't working'. It is a pastiche of the famous Saatchi advertising campaign from 1979 for the Conservative Party - 'Labour isn't working'. Thought I'd let you know.
I googled it and found a picture of a billboard poster, but couldn't make out all the writing. From looking at the Bodyform website, I get the impression that it's trying to say that women everywhere should turn to Bodyform because the alternatives are not working (just as the Tories wanted the country to turn from Labour). It's an interesting departure from the usual adverts for this sort of thing.
