Battle of the Tribute Bands

This is so good, it's worth blogging. It's the CBB Battle of the Tribute Bands -- The Jackson Five vs. Steps. I think Jermaine Jackson is finally starting to relax and enjoy himself in the Big Brother house.

Leo Sayer Leaves CBB

Warning: Video links in this section contain strong language.

Here's a YouTube video of Leo Sayer's dramatic exit from the house because BB wouldn't give him any clean underwear (every year BB provides contestants with a tub, washboard and mangle and all laundry is washed by hand, which Leo refused to do). If you want to watch the buildup to this, just type "Leo Sayer Loses the Plot" into the YouTube search and watch the videos in order (there are about six of them). If you don't mind some strong language, you may also like the footage of Leo Sayer giving BB the thumbs up.

The poor chap didn't know what he was letting himself in for. In his interview with Davina McCall, it was clear that he hadn't researched the programme or what it entailed before signing the contract. Perhaps after this he'll be getting himself another agent.

Thought you might like this!

Complaints about alleged racism on Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother have hit nearly 10,000, making it one of the most complained-about shows of all time.
Media regulator Ofcom said it had received 7,600 complaints by 5pm today, while Channel 4 confirmed it had received 2,000.

This is already the most complaints ever received about Big Brother or Celebrity Big Brother.

The complaints tally, with both organisations expecting more to come in, means the show is gaining on Jerry Springer The Opera as Ofcom's most complained-about programme of all time, post transmission.

Ofcom received 8,860 complaints after Jerry Springer The Opera aired on BBC2 in January 2005.

However, the BBC received more than 50,000 complaints pre-transmission following a coordinated campaign by religious groups.

The mood of anger at the alleged bullying inflicted on housemate Shilpa Shetty by Danielle Lloyd, Jo O'Meara and Jade Goody spread to parliament today, when Labour MP Keith Vaz tabled an early day motion condemning the Bollywood star's treatment.

Mr Vaz's motion said Big Brother had a "role to play in preventing racist behaviour" in the house and called on the programme to take "urgent action to remind housemates that racist behaviour is unacceptable".

He added that he tabled the motion after members of his Leicester East constituency had complained to him.

"We would not tolerate this kind of racism on other types of television programme and we should not do so on a programme that is watched by millions of people," he said.

Ofcom launched an investigation following the deluge of complaints, while Channel 4 has said it will not tolerate any racist abuse on the show.

However, the broadcaster added that Shilpa herself had not made any complaints.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: "We don't tolerate any racist abuse in any form. Big Brother is closely monitoring all the housemates and will take appropriate measures to reprimand such behaviour where necessary.

"The social interactions and dynamics of the group are one of the key parts of the Big Brother story and viewers have a right to see these portrayed accurately. However, this is balanced with our duty not to broadcast material that may cause unjustifiable offence."

The complaints were prompted after Jade, Jo and Danielle made a series of derogatory comments about Shilpa, including calling her a "dog" and impersonating her accent.

Jade Goody's mother, Jackiey Budden, also repeatedly referred to Shilpa as "the Indian" while she was on the show and refused to pronounce her name.

However, Channel 4 has confirmed that fellow housemate Jack Tweed did not call Shilpa a "Paki" as had been reported on many websites.

We watched some of the offending BB footage the other day, but hadn't realised that it was all kicking off in a big way. Last night we watched the odd bit of news footage too. Unfortunately, it's hard be up-to-date. We always seem to be a day or so behind those in the UK.

This is exactly the sort of thing that BB thrives on. I'm looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

I enjoyed the Germaine Greer article -- pompous, self-righteous twaddle that only succeeding in showing how addicted she is to the show. Deep down, she probably regrets walking on Celebrity Big Brother a couple of years ago.
